The Player ETO terrain is the work of several players in the Warbirds3 community.
It was developed on volunteered time and the makers in no way got paid for doing it.
They worked closely with iEN under NDA's utilizing their tools and assistance.
Due to restraints in the game, the 1:1 modeling of the European Theatre of Operations fell short (but not by much).
Several objects and fields had to be removed due to pushing the envelope so hard.
While I know from talking to them that some of the creators are disappointed because it was not what they originally planned,
it should be known that this is hands down the best Warbirds3 terrain to date.
The terrain spans from London to Berlin, about 426 miles square.
Several unique cities, industries, ports, and airfields dot the landscape with objects just released.
The terrain tiling of fields, forests, and cityscapes all randomly mesh together to create that authentic look.
The best part is work still continues.
Besides bug fixing, Several are working on arena scripts that will put strategy into the arena and make it a true 24/7 arena with what you as a player does effecting the war in the long run.
All this nicely fits in with the history of Warbirds3 and in particular the present.
Never have so many done so much for an online community.
From the PDC to the map makers, from the texture gurus to the skinners, from the researchers to the flight model team,
never have so many players been involved in the final look of a multi-player online game.
The Player ETO terrain is the latest player contribution and possibly the best thus far.
Personally, I have really found appreciation for the creators through this map project.
I am still amazed by it.
This site was developed first hand in PHP, utilizing a MySQL DB and PNG files.
Thanks to those who gave me the information needed for such a precise project.
