Use this form when making WB3 gunsites for ranging.
As discussed, sites in the 3D cockpits are different distances from the pilot's eye.
This causes the site to span a different amount of degrees for each plane.
So, using 1 site for all planes is not possible if the site is used for ranging and deflection estimating.
To use the form, enter in the needed info and press "compute". The result is the number of pixels you need to represent when producing your custom 64x64 gunsite. Remember this number is only for the ride you chose. Note: The figuring I did is optimized for viewing in 75 degree mode. Because of the way the degrees of view are 'stretched' across your monitor, different settings stretch the gunsite image differently. This resulted in a difference of 1 or 2 pixels when comparing 55 to 75 and 75 to 90. You may choose a different degree of view (other than 75) and then the form will compensate the 1 or 2 pixels. At long distances (beyond 400) things got weird, so I had to put in a fudge factor for these higher ranges. All this may result in the estimate being off by no more than a pixel. IMPORTANT NOTICE: Estimates are done for pilot position 1 in all planes. Also, when testing your site for ranging, remember d3 in the game is 300-399 yards. So if you open up on a con when you see d4 change to d3, you are really shooting at a range near 400 yards. |
